CEE Students Receive NCSEA Foundation Diversity in Structural Engineering Scholarship
Baiyu Chen, PhD’27, civil and environmental engineering, Shun Lei Yee, E’25, civil engineering, and Santa Flores Alvarez, MS’24, civil engineering, were named recipients of the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) Foundation Diversity in Structural Engineering Scholarships.

New Study Finds That Microplastics Reduce the Efficiency of Removing Carbon Dioxide From the Atmosphere
MES/COS/CEE Professor Aron Stubbins co-authored a new study, published in Marine Chemistry, which shows that microplastics slow down the ocean’s natural carbon sink process. This is reducing the ocean’s ability to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which impedes it from helping offset the climate crisis.

NUASCE Recognized as an Outstanding Student Chapter
The Northeastern University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) was nationally recognized on multiple fronts, including being named the 2024 ASCE Distinguished Chapter for Region 1, and a recipient of a 2024 Certificate of Commendation. It also had strong showings in both the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge competitions.
